   I love this photo and all your photos. I wonder if there’s a reason you don’t want captions with these. Maybe because I’m a word person, I would love to know more about all these images.

     Many thanks for your kind e-mail and most generous comment. It has been a pleasure to work with Beth.

     For several reasons having to do with the history of Belarus, the nature of the system there, the inability to control words once posted on the Internet, and the desire to have people look hard and stretch their imaginations when viewing my photos, captions are something I am exceptionally cautious about adding. I have tried to anticipate general questions in my comments under the section about the site. However, I take your point seriously and will start to add comments to many of the photos of the day, probably after Christmas. If you have questions about any photos I would be pleased to answer them.
