Vjerka and I stopped by Granny Prosja’s house to say hello but she had gone out in the falling snow to try to cover the pile of hay she uses in tending her chickens. We found her hard at work in the barnyard.
In the tree behind Granny Prosja one can see a traditional beehive (kaloda — калода or borts’ — борць), made by hollowing out a section of tree trunk.

З Веркай зайшлі наведаць бабулю Просю (1918), але дома яе не знайшлі, бо гледзячы на моцны сьнегапад была пайшла на двор праз вуліцу, каб накрыць стус сена, якое выкарыстоўвае ў куратніку.
Granny Prosja, frustrated at not being able to finish covering the hay, insisted on tidying up the yard and closing the barn door herself. Vjerka promised to have her husband Misha and son Maksim bring more hay as cover.
З пяшчотным прымусам Верка папрасіла, каб бабуля Прося не перажывала й сказала, што яе муж Міша й сын Максім дапамогуць. Бабуля Прося павольна пагадзілася, але настаяла на тым, каб прыбраць двор і замкнуць адрыну самой.
Maksim and his father Misha, both math teachers in the village school, quickly carried heavy loads of hay to save the day.

Misha stopped for a second to joke with Vjerka and one of their neighbors.
