  1. Beautiful! I know many immigrants to the U.S. from Russia — perhaps Belarus region too — brought their peonies with them. Have heard from readers especially in Kansas who have heirloom Old World peonies. Is the climate in Belarus like Kansas? From your photos, it looks colder there.

    1. Julie, many thanks for your continued interest and your comment. The topography and climate in Belarus are generally like that in the North Woods — Minnesota, Northern Michigan, southern Canada — flat, heavily forested, lake- and meandering river-filled, with mostly sandy soil, extensively marshy and boggy in certain regions; northern continental climate with winter temperatures sometimes down to -30F in northern Belarus, wet springs, summer temperatures up to the upper 80s.

  2. Thank you for the interesting information about climate, topography and soil conditions, John. Have been reading about the “muck” of upstate New York, hugely challenging to farm but people figured out how to grow in it. Maybe the Belarus marshes and bogs are similar.

These peonies look pink — even in black and white.

  3. выдатны здымак, шыкоўныя півоні атрымаліся, спадар Джон
