Like so many other churches in areas occupied by the Soviets, the Roman Catholic church in Ljepjel’ was desecrated; local Soviet authorities used the church as a warehouse for old machinery. Through the devotion and hard work of parishioners and then-parish priest Father Mieczislaw the church was reclaimed and restored in the early 1990s and reconsecrated in 1995.
