In honor of Trinity Sunday/З нагоды Тройцы.

Trinity weekend is one of the several annual occasions when Orthodox Belarusans in parts of the country honor their forebears at their graves.  Families often travel a significant distance to reach the cemetery where their forebears are buried.  The tradition is especially strong in the northern district of Rasony, where, in a classic syncretic Christian/pre-Christian rite, families gather to clean, and then hold a memorial picnic at or on, the grave of a forebear.  In this photo the lady is holding a birch branch, another syncretic symbol of  rebirth and renewal.

На поўначы Беларусі, напрыклад, на Расоншчыне, па старажытнай сінкрэтычнай традыцыі сем’і зьбіраюцца для наведваньня могілак менавіта на Тройцу (Сёмуху, Пяцідзесятніцу). Часам едуць вельмі здалёк, каб пабачыцца са сваякамі ў вёсцы, прыбрацца на могілках, а потым наладзіць памінальны пачастунак. На гэтым фота жанчына трымае зялёную галінку – сімвал адраджэньня і аднаўленьня.
