Photo of the Day for September 28, 2010: Homage to the Central Prypjats’ V

Homage to the Central Prypjats’ V/Паклон Сярэдняй Прыпяці (частка V)

The industrious, children-filled villages of the central Prypjats’ region in southern Belarus belie the commonplace that villages throughout Europe are dying.  These villages radiate vitality, prosperity, generosity and hope while ensuring, as strongly as any other places I’ve ever visited, that their traditions — under unremitting pressure for the past century — thrive and are passed on to succeeding generations.  Even the outsider feels that he is coming home when entering this region.  A smile and a bow in gratitude to these villages and their inhabitants.

A salute to the people of Tsjerablichy and their traditions (part II)/Паклон Цераблюкам і Цераблічанкам і іх традыцыям (частка ІI).
