The title of this post is a line from the national — if temporarily unofficial — hymn of the Belarusian nation Pahonja (Пагоня — “the knight in pursuit” — the Belarusian national, if again temporarily unofficial, coat of arms), whose words incorporate a 1916 poem of the great Belarusian poet Maksim Bahdanovich:
“will not be destroyed, will not be stopped, will not be held in check!”
The line is from from a couplet in the second stanza:
“The ancient Litvin [Belarusian] knight in pursuit
Will not be destroyed, will not be stopped, will not be held in check!”
I have chosen a pastoral view of a place associated with the beginnings of Belarusian statehood to symbolize the resilience and fortitude of the Belarusian nation.
