It is one of the profoundest customs of Belarusians, the most elemental sign of Belarusian Christian faith, and the essence of Belarusians’ honoring their forebears to plant crosses as here and in ten thousand other places, not to revive the contemptible Soviet practice of ripping crosses from the earth or knocking them over.
