Like Hudzishki (photos of the day for August 23), a toponym of Baltic origin: Hud is the colloquial Lithuanian term for Belarusian. The village name thus implies that this was a swttlement of Belarusians in a predominantly Baltic (Lithuanian) area.
The photo shows the view toward the spires of the Roman Catholic church of Sts. Simon and Thaddeus (to the right of center on the horizon) three miles/five kilometers to the west in Lazduny.
