The monastery at Pustynki was one of the most important Greek-Catholic establishments in the Polish-Lithuanian Commonwealth before the partitions of Poland and the Russian Empire’s forced conversion of the monastery to Orthodoxy. The monastery has had a new birth since 2003 after decades of closure and ruin under Soviet rule. This icon is a splendid example of Greek-Catholic iconography.
