Kust/Куст (Куста, Ваджэньне Куста)
Kust or Kusta (“Bush”) is a pre-Christian Belarusian fertility and initiation rite still celebrated during the second or third day of Trinity in a few villages in the Pinsk and Luninets Districts of Western Polesia (Pripet Marshes). A group of village women choose a young girl, take her to the woods, and cloak her in a wreath and tunic of birch or oak leaves. The group then leads lead her through the village, stopping at houses to sing and offer blessings for a fruitful harvest and to receive in turn special Trinity-tide breads or other food and drink.
“Куст” – гэта дахрысьціянскі беларускі абрад плоднасьці і пасьвячэньня; ён захаваўся ў некалькіх вёсках Піншчыны ды Лунінеччыны і праводзіцца на другі ці трэці дзень Тройцы. Колькі жанок зь вёскі выбіраюць дзеўчыну, вядуць у лес, апранаюць на яе вянок і “сукенку”, сплеценую зь бярозавага ці кляновага лісьця, а потым вядуць тую дзеўчыну па вёсцы ды наведваюць хаты, сьпяваюць на добры ўраджай і атрымліваюць за гэта спецыяльныя траечныя выпекі ды іншы пачастунак.
