In honor of Trinity Sunday/З нагоды Сьвятой Тройцы.
The Saturday before the feast of Holy Trinity is one of several occasions in the traditional and liturgical cycle of the year when Orthodox Belarusans in parts of the country honor their forebears at the forebears’ graves. Families often travel a significant distance to reach the cemetery where their forebears are buried. The tradition is especially strong in the northern district of Rasony, where, in a classic syncretic Christian/pre-Christian rite, families gather to clean, and then hold a memorial picnic at or on, the grave of a forebear. In this photo the lady is holding a birch branch, another syncretic symbol of rebirth and renewal.
На поўначы Беларусі, напрыклад, на Расоншчыне, па старажытнай сінкрэтычнай традыцыі сем’і зьбіраюцца для наведваньня могілак менавіта на Духову суботу напярэдадні Тройцу (Сёмуху, Пяцідзесятніцу). Часам едуць вельмі здалёк, каб пабачыцца са сваякамі ў вёсцы, прыбрацца на могілках, а потым наладзіць памінальны пачастунак. На гэтым фота жанчына трымае зялёную галінку – сымбал адраджэньня і аднаўленьня.
