Villages traditionally celebrated Orthodox St. George’s Day (May 6) by leading the cows in procession to the pastures to mark the official beginning of the grazing season, followed by songs and blessings at the village crosses and in front of villagers’ houses. Today one is exceptionally lucky to find a village which still celebrates St. George’s Day in the traditional way.
