Ruins of former Skirmunt estate “Shamjatoushchyna”, Shemjetava (Shamjetava).
The Skirmunts were a noble family dating from at least the mid-14th century, with property throughout the western and southwestern Belarusian lands. Skirmunts played an influential role in the industrialization of the Belarusian lands and in the Belarusian national and patriotic movement of the 20th century. As a result Raman Skirmunt, a leader of the Belarusian national movement, was an immediate victim of the murderous Soviet repressions after the September 1939 joint Soviet-Nazi German occupation of the western Belarusian lands (see photos of the day for March 21, 2020). The estate in Shemjetava was burned down by Soviet partisans in 1942 or 1943.
Руіны былай сядзібы Скірмунтаў „Шамятоўшчына“, Шэметава (Шаметава).
