Feast of the Dormition of the Holy Mother of God, Rubjel’ 2012. Сьвяток Усьпеньня Прасьвятой Багародзіцы, Рубель 2012 год.
Rubjel’ has always had a strong Orthodox tradition. There are now two Orthodox churches in the village. One, an outstanding example of a Polesian wooden church, dates from 1796, but is used only for its name-day feast since the nave is too small to accommodate the revived and growing parish. The parish takes deserved pride from the fact that the newer church, whose foundation was laid in 1992, was built entirely with contributions of money and labor from the people of Rubjel’. While the newer church lacks the intimacy and historic roots of the older church, its nave splendidly filters and holds the mid-morning sun.
