Spring flooding in the Pripet Marshes.

The Prypjats’ (Pripet) River watershed experienced a relative lack of precipitation during the 2014-2015 winter.  The consequent low level of flooding this spring will mean a lower level of natural replenishment of nutrients in the traditional Pripet Marsh flood plain.

The flood season and resulting shimmering light are ideal for photography.

Lost landscape patrimony:  continuing construction of dykes means that many meadows and fields will no longer feel the primordial rhythm of the spring flood.  For instance, the new dyke in Vjeras’nitsa in western Homjel’ Region has blocked recurrence of this harmonious and replenishing scene from the very high flood in 2008.
