World War I cemeteries (part II): German cemetery, Dzjasjatniki (Dzjesjatniki) 2015.
Могілкі 1-й сусьветнай вайны (частка II): Дзясятнікі (Дзесятнікі) 2015 г.
This is one of a series of cemeteries laid out by the German army from 1915-1918 when the eastern front ran through west-central Belarus. The cemetery originally contained German graves and a 1916 German war memorial (photos 1 and 6). In 1922, when the western Belarusian lands lay inside the interwar Polish Republic, Polish authorities restored the cemetery and included graves of Russian (e.g., photo 2: the inscription, in Polish, reads “Unknown Russian Soldier”) and Austrian soldiers whose remains had been exhumed and transported from where they fell.
