Sakuny Villages 2015 (III/VI): Shchytkavichy, Ljauki, Drazhna.
Like so many other Belarusian villages, Ljauki has seen its younger generations migrate to the cities. Yet what the wanderer finds is not a sense of resignation among those who remain. Rather, one is struck by how grounded, resilient and approachable Ljauki’s inhabitants are, and after so many pleasant encounters and discovering so many remaining examples of Sakuny vernacular architecture, one regrets having to leave.

Нягледзячы на міграцыю малодшых пакаленьняў у гарады, пазасталыя жыхары Ляўкоў уражваюць вандроўніка сваімі спрытнасьцю, трываласьцю ды зычлівасьцю. Спадчына дойлідства сакуноў у вёсцы таксама вартая сур’ёзнай ўвагі.

Sakuny-style houses normally have simple window frames (lishtvy); the decorative elements of this window frame caught my eye.
У адрозненьне ад традыцыйна простых ліштваў у хат сакуноў, упрыгожваньне гэтай ліштвы зьвярнула на сябе маю ўвагу.
The lady of this house explained that the leakiness of the original wooden window frames had forced a recent substitution with plastic frames.
Гаспадыня сказала, што было зручней замяніць арыгінальныя аконныя рамы пластыкавымі, чым пашукаць майстра, які бы ўмеў зробіць новыя ў традыцыйным стылі.
This house is not in the Sakuny style, but has interesting window-frame (lishtva) designs.
