In the battle of Milavidy (June 3 (May 22 Old Style), 1863), insurgents of the 1863-64 Uprising held their ground against a larger Russian imperial force.
In 1913 the Russian imperial authorities erected this cross in memory of the soldiers of the imperial army who fell at Milavidy.

From 1921-39 the western Belarusian lands, including the Baranavichy area, were incorporated into the Second Polish Republic. In 1933, opposite the imperial cross, the Polish authorities erected this monument to the insurgents who fell in the battle.
