The War of 1812 was a civil war in the Belarusian lands, with many members of the gentry seeing Napoleon as a liberator from the Russian imperial yoke and fighting on the French side. This roadside shrine, probably in memory of a Radziwill who fought for the French, was built in the 1930s when the Second Polish Republic included western Belarusian lands. The shrine remained standing throughout the subsequent Soviet occupation and annexation, although the Soviet regime stripped the shrine of its dedicatory plaque.
