With few exceptions, from the Soviet re-occupation of Belarus in 1944 through today, the overwhelming majority of authorities at all levels has degraded, garishly “restored” or destroyed significant elements of the patrimony of Belarus.
The authorities have pursued this degradation and destruction despite the efforts of local historians and local and national conservation organizations.
In this regard Njas’vizh, for centuries a seat of the powerful Radziwill family, is fortunate to have retained a noteworthy cross-section of ecclesiastic, civil and vernacular architecture of the past four and a half centuries.
