Polesian rhythms: spring feast of St. Nicholas (Mikola – Мікола), Rukhcha 2015.
Палескія рытмы: Мікола, Рухча 2015 г.
In the Orthodox liturgical cycle St. Nicholas the Wonderworker is honored with feasts in spring, to commemorate the transfer of his relics from Myra in Asia Minor to Bari in Italy, and in December. The spring feast falls on May 22 (May 9 in Western churches).
Rukhcha’s treasured Polesian wooden church of St. Nicholas (1737), which will overflow with pilgrims once the five-hour service starts, beckons quietly in a chestnut-shaded churchyard.
