Asmolava I/III:  Tatar cemetery.

One of at least 30 Tatar cemeteries in Belarus, the cemetery in the woods on the outskirts of Asmolauka remains well-tended.

The Grand Duсhy of Lithuania (VKL) fought invading Mongols and Tatars from the mid-13th century onward.  At the end of the 14th/beginning of the 15th centuries Grand Dukes began to invite Tatars to settle in the VKL in return for the Tatars’ military service in defense of the VKL.

Some Tatar communities converted to Christianity and some Tatar-origin families gained noble status in the Polish nobility (szłachta).  Other Tatar communities remained Muslim.
