Pentecost: Papshychy 2019 (VIII/XIV).
Long ago the residents of Papshychy in the Hlybokaje District of northern Belarus were miraculously spared death from a plague which ravaged the surrounding area. To commemorate their forefathers’ deliverance, villagers observe the feast of Pentecost by carrying a cloth, onto which people place offerings, in a procession from a roadside shrine at one end of the village to an early-morning Mass at the village’s cemetery chapel.

Каб шанаваць даўнае цудоўнае ўратаваньне вёскі ад смертную хваробу, рана раніцай на Спасланьне Сьвятога Духа вяскоўцы Папшыч зьбіраюцца ў адной з прыдарожных каплічак вёскі й носяць адмысловую намітку, тканую ў вёсцы, на могілкавую капліцу, ля якой сьвяткуюць сьвятую Імшу. Падчас працэсіі зьбіраюць ахвяры на намітцы.
This year I arrived in Papshychy at 5:00 a.m. Shortly after 7:00 a.m. activity picked up at the shrine. A parishioner delivered the statue of the Virgin Mary for members of the parish to carry in the procession. Ladies of the parish immediately set to work decorating the statues with freshly-cut peonies…
Сёлета (9 чэрвеня) прыехаў у вёску а 5-ай раніцы. А 7:15 парафіянін прывёз статуэтку Найсьвяцейшай Панны Марыі для працэсіі й парафіянкі адразу ўпрыгожвалі яе сьвежа зарэзанымі півонямі…
…For a couple of minutes activity ceased as the ladies quietly said prayers…
