Dating from 1472, Holy Trinity in Ishkal’dz’ is the oldest unreconstructed church in Belarus. Principally Gothic, the building displays Romanesque-style articulation on the facade. Like so many other villages in Belarus, Ishkal’dz’ has seen a decline in its population, perhaps accelerated by the difficulty of reaching the village from main roads. However, many people with family ties to the parish return to celebrate the titular feast. This year the feast was also the occasion for First Communion for two children.
