Part I/II: Il’lja’s mother presents her two-month-old son to Father Aljaksandr at the entry to the church. In turn Father Aljaksandr presents Il’lja to God at and around the alter in the inner sanctum behind the iconostasis. This is the one time Il’lja, as a lay parishioner, is allowed behind the iconostasis. After Father Aljaksandr blesses Il’lja and his mother, she leaves the nave, since only the child’s godparents are allowed to be present for the christening.
