In a tradition with deep pre-Christian roots, Orthodox Belarusans mark the feast of Trinity by spreading marsh reeds in front of their parish church and in the nave (as well as in the entryway and throughout their home). In pre-Christian times this tradition celebrated the greening of spring. Now the tradition recalls that Christ’s first disciples were fishermen.
