Orthodox Holy Saturday 2018. Lamentation at the Tomb (Plashchanitsa — Плашчаніца) and Annunciation (Dabravjeshchan’nje — Дабравешчаньне), Tsjerablichy and Azdamichy 2018.
Whenever Orthodox Easter falls on April 8, as in 2018, then Holy Saturday, April 7, coincides with the fixed-date feast of the Annunciation, one of the Twelve Great Feasts in the Orthodox liturgical calendar.

Symbolically to mark Christ’s repose in the tomb, the priest sets up a temporary altar table, an altar of repose, toward the rear of the nave. The priest — Father Vital’ in Tsjerablichy, Father Aljaksandr in Azdamichy — spreads a cloth icon to cover the table. Commemorating the Lamentation of the dead Christ, the icon is called the Winding-Cloth: Plashchanitsa (Плашчаніца) in Belarusian or epitaphios in Greek. Other icons in the church are draped in black lace. However, this matins service itself is far from a lamentation. Rather, it praises Christ’s victory over death by his own death.
In Tsjerablichy in 2018 Father Vital’ elected to hold the Plashchanitsa procession, the “carrying out of the Winding-Cloth” or Vynos Plashchanitsy (вынос Плашчаніцы), on Good Friday afternoon, to focus on the celebration of the Annunciation on Holy Saturday.

In Azdamichy Father Aljaksandr commemorated Plashchanitsa with the customary Holy Saturday matins service and procession and then performed the Annunciation liturgy.
