Orthodox parish priests in Belarus have some leeway in how they celebrate the rites associated with the liturgy for the feast of the Dormition. In Tsjerablichy Father Vasil’ follows the practice of placing a model tomb in the nave. This tomb symbolizes the empty tomb of the Mother of God which the apostles found on the third day after her death and bodily assumption. The tomb is covered by an image of the Mother of God in repose (epitaphios; plashchanitsa — плашчаніца — in Belarusian).
