I first met and photographed Ivan Mal’tsevich, the local school’s biology and geography teacher and a skilled small-holder farmer, as he sat with his twin sons Ivan and Dzjanis at the 2009 feast of the Holy Trinity in Azdamichy. In 2011 Mr. Mal’tsevich kindly allowed me to photograph his family as they and neighbors finished the potato harvest in the small plot arbitrarily allotted by the local collective farm. This year on the feast of the Transfiguration (Apple-Blessing feast), Ivan and his wife Aljona gathered family and relatives for a group photo.
