Belarus in Faces (part VI):  Zdzislau Kizhlo and his wife Janina.  Jurany 2011.  Беларусь у тварах (частка VI):  спадар Здзіслаў Кіжло й яго жонка Яніна.  Юраны 2011 год.

It was a moving experience to meet Zdzislau Kizhlo, his wife Janina, and younger generations of their family.  The Kizhlos embody the quiet dignity and resilience of the land around the Braslau Lakes in northern Belarus.  Many thanks to fellow photographer Aljena Shalima for the introduction.  Zdzislau lost his arm in a near-fatal industrial accident years ago.  It was recounted to me how, upon reviving in the hospital, he expressed regret he would no longer be able to scythe the grass in his yard and fields.
