The feast of Corpus Christi falls on the Thursday after Holy Trinity (thus June 19 in 2014). Corpus Christi, which celebrates the institution of the Holy Eucharist and the Real Presence of Jesus Christ in the Eucharist, is one of the ten holy days of obligation in the Roman Catholic church.
In many parishes the procession on Corpus Christi stops at four stations — either permanent shrines in the churchyard or, as in Kramjanitsa, shrines built for the day — where, accompanied by readings from the Gospels and litanies, the priest solemnly displays the Eucharist. Here the procession moves from the first station just outside the entrance to the church to the second station, located in the heart of the village.
