She often uses her wiles to sneak into the apple orchard at home or in a neighbor’s yard to eat her fill of apples which have fallen to the ground. The contents of this basket, patiently prepared for Siva by Katsja and Vasil”s younger daughter Tats’tsjana, were somewhat diminished in sneak raids by the family’s flock of 12 geese, who retreated only when I brought the gander up short by asking in my best peremptory English where the blazes he thought he was leading his geese.
