It is a moving experience to celebrate Mass in a parish so full of joy, so firm in its Christian faith as the parish of St. Andrew the Apostle in Narach. The parish website (http://www.naracz.na.by/index.php — in Belarusian), a model for the kind of website one wishes all parishes in Belarus would create, gives a sense of how deeply-rooted the parish is in its faith and traditions, and why:
“…Narach also has an Orthodox parish, whose church suffered the sad fate of being closed in the post-war period. After the Second World War the godless regime [the Soviet occupiers] also tried to close the Catholic church. However, the parishioners, thanks to the firmness of their faith, succeeded in preventing the destruction of their church. The 1950s were the most difficult period. The communist regime, in its attempt to destroy Christian faith, imprisoned the parish priest, Father Pjatro Vasjuchonka, who was later forced to leave Belarus. Although the parish remained without a priest, the parishioners themselves prayed and led services in the church while hoping for better days and striving to obtain the authorities’ permission for a new priest. The authorities then took the keys to the church, but even this act could not force the parishioners of Narach to renounce their faith. Parishioners began to walk the Stations of the Cross around the church, and so many joined in that their singing could be heard two kilometers away. The parishioners did not cease at night either, and managed to save their church from being set on fire. Over time the authorities granted permission for a priest to serve the church…”

Адчуваецца адразу надзвычайная радасьць, моц веры й любоў да касьцёла парафіянаў у Нарачы. Узорны парафіяльны сайт (http://www.naracz.na.by/index.php) — каб кожная парафія ў Беларусі бы мела такі выдатны сайт — растлумачвае карані гэтай трываласьці:
“…У Нарачы дзейнiчае таксама праваслаўная парафiя. Лёс храма быў журботны – ён быў зачынены ў пасляваенны перыяд. Пасля другой сусветнай вайны бязбожныя ўлады спрабавалi зачынiць i касцёл, аднак парафіяне, дзякуючы сваёй стойкасцi ў веры, здолелi захаваць дом Божы ад знiшчэння. Самымі складанымі былі 50-я гады. Камуністычныя ўлады, спрабуючы знішчыць веру, пасадзілі ў турму пробашча парафіі кс. Пятра Васючонка, які пазней змушаны быў пакiнуць Беларусь. Хоць парафiя засталася без святара, то людзi самi малiлiся ў святынi і адпраўлялі набажэнствы без святара, спадзяючыся на лепшае i стараючыся атрымаць ад улады дазвол для святара. Таксама тыя ж ўлады забралі ключы ад касцёла, але гэта не прымусіла нарачанцаў адрачыся ад веры. Парафіяне пачалі абыходзіць Крыжовую Дарогу вакол касцёла, прычым збіралася столькі людзей, што іх спеў чуўся аж за два кіламетры. Ноччу вернікі таксама не спалі: сцераглі касцёл ад падпалу. З цягам часу дазвол быў выдадзены….“
