“Spring Will Come” is a poem from 1908 by the outstanding Belarusian symbolist poet Maksim Bahdanovich. March 25 is the feast of the Annunciation in western churches and the date in 1918 when the Belarusian National Republic (BNR) was founded, only to be crushed by the Bolshevik occupation of January 1919. Patriotic Belarusians celebrate March 25 as Freedom Day (Dzjen’ Voli – Дзень Волі) in memory of the BNR and for liberty.

Холадна. Вецер па полі гуляе,
Вые, як звер,
Снег узрывае, нуду наганяе, –
Кепска цяпер!
Але мне сэрца пяе: не нудзіся!
Прыйдзе вясна!
Гукне: «Прачніся, зямля! прабудзіся
