Jatvjez’ — the name of this village on the outskirts of Dzjatlava (and of six other villages in western Belarus) — reflects the early medieval settlement of the area by the western Baltic tribe of the Jats’vjahi (Яцьвягі).

According to the Belarusian linguist-historian Uladzimjer S’vjazhynski, the last of the Jats’vjahi lived in the 19th century in Zasjets’tsje, another village on the outskirts of Dzjatlava.
