In this area of numerous Baltic toponyms we find another of the many Belarusian villages named Tatarshchyna or other variants incorporating the word Tatar. The name reflects the invitation to groups of Tatars by the Grand Dukes of Lithuania at the end of the 14th and beginning of the 15th century to settle as guardians of the Grand Duchy’s borderlands and to increase the power of the Grand Duchy’s military.
