May is Marian Month in the Roman Catholic Church. In the traditionally strongly Catholic villages of the Nalibaki Wilderness west-southwest of Mjensk, parishioners pray the Rosary and sing hymns every May evening at a Marian shrine in their village. It was a privilege to be able to sit with these women in Prudy and, as an evening storm approached, to pray: Hail Mary, full of grace, the Lord is with thee; blessed art thou among women, and blessed is the fruit of thy womb, Jesus. Holy Mary, Mother of God, pray for us sinners, now and at the hour of our death. Amen.
