Radaunitsa (Orthodox Eastertide commemoration of the dead), Azdamichy 2014. Радаўніца, Аздамічы 2014 г.
Radaunitsa is the most important Orthodox commemoration of the dead in the Belarusian cycle of the year: people often travel considerable distances back to their native village or town to clean and to honor their forebears’ graves.
In Azdamichy, as in most other Belarusian parishes, Radaunitsa is observed on the second Tuesday after Orthodox Easter (e.g., April 29 in 2014, April 21 in 2015).
During the service, Father Aljaksandr thrice reads through parishioners’ commemoration lists of departed relatives and friends.
After the chapel service, Father Aljaksandr, accompanied by members of the church choir, moves through the cemetery to bless graves.
