Lake Janava is one of a chain of lakes south of Polatsak in the northern Belarusian region of Vitsjebsk.

A few hundred yards from this orchard lie the remains of what has been called the Belarusian Stonehenge, a group of stones which appear to have formed an astronomical observatory in ancient times; it is difficult to determine the original layout owing to the fact that the Soviet regime blew up the site in the 1930s.  We celebrated Midsummer’s Night there in 2001.

  1. Amazing use of color, Dad! These are so beautiful – I would love to sit in the apple orchard and read a good book 🙂
