Catholic and Orthodox churches throughout Belarus hold a special service of blessing for pupils and older students and for the beginning of the school year (September 1). In the Orthodox parish of the Holy Trinity Father Aljaksandr traditionally performs the service for pupils from the parish’s villages of Azdamichy and Tsjerablichy on the last Sunday of August. In 2011 the service occurred on August 28, the Feast of the Dormition.
Here pupils sit in the churchyard awaiting the start of the service. It is especially moving to see how respectfully children and young adults in these two villages care for their traditions.
